Kala Jeera Rice is one of the traditional breed produced by the Koraput Tribals in Organically. The most scented rice in local breed. It can be used to prepare various delicious items like Kheer, Biriyani, Polaw & Khichdi.
Ragi powder, locally famous as "Mandia Chuna". It’s a traditional food of the Koraput tribals with high nutritional value. Ragi is a whole grain that is gluten-free and a staple in South Odisha. It is rich in fibre that helps with weight loss and diabetes. It's packed with calcium, good carbs, amino acids and Vitamin D.
Koraput Coffee- The name itself speaks thousand words. It is a home-grown coffee, cultivated in the hills of Lamtaput, Padua, Nandpur & Koraput. Grown in this land organically from last few decades but in 2019 it got a special recognition and since then it is branded and marketed as ‘Koraput Coffee’. Gradually, it gained popularity for its unique taste and blend.
This honey locally termed as " Bagha Mahu" (means Wild Honey). Which is collected traditionally from the dense forest by the tribals. This honey widely used for its high medicinal value.
Foxtail Millet, locally famous as "Kangu Rice". It’s a traditional food of the Koraput tribals with high nutritional value. It is one of the oldest cultivated cereal grain and the most economically important food for local tribal of Koraput Dist. The grain can be cooked in the same manner as rice and has many food applications (porridge, pudding, breads, cakes, flour, chips, rolls, noodles, etc.). It is rich in dietary fibre, protein, healthy micros (vitamin and minerals) and low in fat. People who are suffering from diabetes generally used it as a special diet to control sugar level.
Shikakai, also known as the hair fruit, has been used traditionally as a hair care ingredient for centuries now. The Ayurvedic herb is often used as a shampoo replacement because of its excellent cleansing properties. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C, K, and D, which help nourish hair and keep it healthy. The dried shikakai fruit is collected from the shrub in the month of January and healthy fruits are segregated to sell in market.
The fruit is commonly known as Indian soapberry or washnut. It is a deciduous tree that grows in the lower foothills and midhills of Koraput. This is traditionaly used for removing head lice off the scalp and hair cleansing materials since ages. This fruit harvested during the summer and dried for further use. Till now the villages Goldsmiths and Brass-Smiths use it as policing material to give extra shining to the gold and brass articles.
Tamarind is a fruit collected annually from the dense forests of Koraput. It is collected ripen as well as in raw as per use. Ripen fruits are thrased and separated the flesh part from the seed and further used as food.
